Lyon Printing Museum

In the 15th and 16th centuries, Lyon was once a hub for printing and book trading in Europe. The city has accumulated a vast collection of historical books and graphic arts. As a result, through the joint efforts of various parties, the Lyon Printing Museum was established in 1964. The museum’s primary mission is to strengthen, protect, collect, and evaluate printed books and graphic heritage. In 2006, it was rated as a two-star tourist attraction in the renowned French guidebook "Michelin"; in 2007, the museum welcomed 16,819 visitors.

The Lyon Printing Museum is housed in a 15th-century historic building, which was once a meeting place for the Lyon city council. A notable feature of the printing museum is its educational aspect, offering insight into the history of printing. The exhibits display printed materials from before the invention of the printing press to the present day, providing an understanding of printing history and past printing machines. On display are printing presses from various eras, prototypes of movable type printing plates, representative engraved printing techniques, well-preserved printing equipment and tools, especially Western printing methods starting from the 15th century. Additionally, there is an exhibition hall showcasing the latest printed materials and publications.
