Erfurt is not only a city of religious buildings but also a city of bridges, with 142 bridges spanning the Gera River and its tributaries and flood channels, winding along the former city walls. The most famous of these is Krämerbrücke, the longest inhabited bridge in Europe.

Erfurt is a city where you can find inner joy. It hosts the Krämerbrücke Festival every year, the largest and most popular old town festival in Thuringia. The Petersberg Festival, held in the old town, features grand military history displays that create a festive atmosphere for Carnival.
