The Rio de Janeiro Cathedral was built in 1964 and completed in 1976. Located in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, it was constructed to honor Saint Sebastian. With its unique shape and grand presence, the cathedral is one of the city's iconic landmarks and a masterpiece of modern art.

Unlike the ancient and elegant churches of Europe, the Rio de Janeiro Cathedral is a modern structure made of reinforced concrete. It has a conical shape, standing 75 meters tall with a base diameter of 106 meters. The entire framework consists of regular square grids, resembling a ladder to the sky—hence its nickname, the "Ladder-Shaped Cathedral." Spacious and majestic, the cathedral can accommodate up to 20,000 people. In front of the main entrance stands a bronze statue of Pope Paul II, while on the left is the bell tower topped with a cross. The architectural ensemble is solemn and dignified, and its unique design stands out among the surrounding modern buildings.

The surroundings of the cathedral are elegant and lush with greenery, giving off a quaint and charming vibe. Stepping inside, visitors are awed by its towering and magnificent atmosphere. At the top of the cathedral is a massive glass cross-shaped roof. Sunlight filters through the cross, filling the hall with bright, soft light. The four arms of the cross are connected to stained glass windows that extend all the way to the ground. Above the pulpit hangs a large wooden carving of the Crucifixion, depicting Jesus nailed to the cross. The back features vertical stained glass windows that shimmer brilliantly in the sunlight, adding a mysterious aura to the entire space. Behind the pulpit are smaller chapels and confessionals, adorned with sculptures of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus. In front of the pulpit lies the main worship hall, which is spacious and expansive.
