Dawson City Museum

Established in the early 1950s, the Dawson City Museum is the largest and most important museum in the Yukon. Its collections include geological specimens, prehistoric artifacts, First Nations items, early exploration materials, gold rush-era relics, and other exhibits related to the formation and later development of Dawson City and the Klondike region.

Built from a former courthouse, the Dawson City Museum aims to showcase life in Dawson during the gold rush era. The museum features a blacksmith shop, saloon, general store, miners’ cabins, as well as tools used by Indigenous peoples. Outside, a historic steam locomotive that once operated on the Klondike mining railway is on display. The museum vividly presents Dawson’s golden age, allowing visitors to experience both the glory of the gold rush and the tough lives of the miners.
