Watson Lake Town is located at 60 degrees north latitude, at the border between the Yukon Territory and British Columbia, with an elevation of 695 meters. It serves as the gateway to the southeastern Yukon and is the essential entry point into the territory from the province. Visitors can fish in the town's numerous lakes, which are teeming with species such as northern pike, lake trout, rainbow trout, and sockeye salmon. Every year, thousands of hunting enthusiasts come to the town to experience the wilderness beauty of the Yukon, where they can hunt for mountain goats, sheep, moose, caribou, grizzly bears, wolves, and more.

Like other towns in the Yukon Territory, Watson Lake also has a subarctic climate. Due to its terrain and weather conditions, the chances of seeing the aurora are relatively high, making it another emerging aurora-watching destination in Canada after Yellowknife (Iqaluit).
