Saint John City

Saint John is located on the northern shore where the Saint John River meets the Bay of Fundy. It is the largest city in the Canadian province of New Brunswick and the second-largest city in the Maritime provinces after Halifax, Nova Scotia. The city’s population has shifted over time from being predominantly Loyalist to largely Irish, and Saint John is often regarded as the most “Irish city” in Canada.

Due to long-standing colonial influence, Saint John has a distinct European character. Many well-preserved buildings are designated as National Historic Sites of Canada, including Fort LaTour (also known as Fort Sainte Marie), the Saint John City Market, and a total of 15 such sites that visitors can explore. The city also boasts a diverse range of arts, cultural, and entertainment venues, such as cinemas, theaters, concert halls, art galleries, and museums—including the New Brunswick Museum, the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum, the Saint John Floral Museum, and the Saint John Police Museum. With its deep-rooted traditions and multicultural backdrop, Saint John hosts numerous conferences and celebrations throughout the year, attracting visitors from around the world.
