Narayanganj
Introduction The third-largest city in Bangladesh and one of its five major river ports. Located south of Dhaka on the right bank of the Shitalakshya River. Population: 196,000 (1981). The industrial zone merges with Dhaka to form the country’s largest industrial hub. The vast majority of Bangladesh's jute is exported from here. It also has temples built in the 12th century.
Highlights
An internationally renowned jute market and center for the jute textile industry, as well as factories for cotton spinning, sugar production, papermaking, and shipbuilding. Tens of thousands of worshippers visit the temples daily.
