Attraction Introduction
A port city in southeastern Bangladesh, it is the capital of Chittagong Division and District. Located on the right bank of the lower Karnaphuli River, 16 kilometers from the river mouth. It is the largest port city in the country. Population: 1.388 million (1981). It has modern loading and unloading equipment. Seagoing vessels can enter the port via the Karnaphuli River, with a navigable channel 198–274 meters wide. The city has well-developed industry and commerce. Chittagong University was established in 1966.
Highlights
A natural harbor built in the 16th century. It has 28 berths with draft depths ranging from 6.4 to 8.5 meters.
