Liberation War Museum

Bangladesh's full name is the People's Republic of Bangladesh. It was originally part of Pakistan, known as East Pakistan. The armed conflict between East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and West Pakistan (now Pakistan) from March 26 to December 16, 1971, along with the Indo-Pakistani War of the same year, is collectively known as the Bangladesh Liberation War (also called the "Pakistani Civil War" or the "Bangladesh Independence War"). The war lasted nine months, resulting in Bangladesh's independence from Pakistan.

The Liberation War Museum was established to commemorate the Bangladesh Liberation War. It officially opened to the public on March 22, 1996, and is one of the country’s most important museums. The museum houses a total of over 10,000 collections. The gallery on the first floor mainly displays works reflecting the history of Bangladesh’s early independence movement as well as India’s struggle against British colonial rule. It also features exhibits on the life of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the national leader and Prime Minister of Bangladesh (1972–1975), and key events surrounding his leadership in the 1971 decision to establish an independent Bangladesh. In addition, the museum showcases weapons once used by the Mukti Bahini forces, highlights the significant deeds of notable soldiers, and explores the impact of these actions on the overall independence war.
