Royal Lake

Royal Lake is an artificial lake built during the British colonial era, located east of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. The lake has a circumference of approximately 5 kilometers, a water depth of 50–115 centimeters, and covers an area of 60.7 hectares. It is connected to Inya Lake through underground pipelines, which supply it with water.

Royal Lake is primarily used to supply clean water to the city. The entire lake is surrounded by the 110-hectare Kandawgyi Nature Park and the 69.25-hectare Yangon Zoological Gardens, offering stunning scenery. Moreover, visitors can see Myanmar’s most distinctive royal paddle boats, also known as Karaweik Palace, on the lake. These boats shine brilliantly in daylight and sparkle magnificently at night under dazzling lights, their reflections dancing on the water — making Royal Lake one of Yangon’s most famous attractions.
