National Museum of Myanmar

The National Museum of Myanmar is located in the northwest of Yangon. Established in 1952, it is a museum showcasing the history, culture, and art of Myanmar and is one of the country's most important museums, widely popular among locals.

The museum has five floors in total and is broadly divided into two sections: the Myanmar Historical Period and Myanmar Culture, featuring 14 different exhibition rooms and halls. Its rich collection includes a dazzling array of exhibits. The Myanmar Historical Period section consists of seven exhibition halls that narrate Myanmar’s history and development from ancient times to the present, including natural history, prehistoric periods and prehistoric anthropology, ancient ornaments, and more. It displays a large number of fossils dating back millions of years, paintings from the Stone Age, clay pots, teapots, necklaces, clothing, gold, silver, jade artifacts, gemstones, furniture, palanquins, and other items. The Myanmar Culture section is divided into seven displays, covering metalwork and calligraphy, traditional folk art, performing arts, fine art exhibitions, Buddha statues, and ethnic culture.

The most eye-catching exhibit in the National Museum of Myanmar is undoubtedly the 1:1 scale model of the royal palace hall located in the first-floor lobby. Its grand scale is truly awe-inspiring, rivaling the magnificence of the Hall of Supreme Harmony in Beijing's Forbidden City.
