Bogyoke Aung San Museum

The Bogyoke Aung San Museum is located in a small town in Yangon. Established in 1962, it was built to commemorate Myanmar’s founding father—Aung San, the leader who guided Myanmar to independence. After World War II, Aung San became the Prime Minister of Myanmar and engaged in negotiations with Britain regarding Myanmar's independence. But before Myanmar gained independence, Aung San was assassinated and has since been revered by the Myanmar people as the Father of the Nation.

The Bogyoke Aung San Museum is a two-story colonial villa built in 1921. It was the last residence of Aung San before his assassination in 1947 and has been listed as part of Yangon’s urban heritage inventory. Most of the exhibits are located on the first floor in the family recreation room, dining room, and living room. They display photos of Aung San in his youth, political activities, overseas trips, family photos, various notable speeches, handwritten notes to his wife, and the car he was riding in before his assassination. On the second floor of the museum, visitors can see Aung San’s and his wife’s bedrooms, the children’s rooms, the meeting room, and the study.

Outside the Bogyoke Aung San Museum, there is a small garden featuring a bronze statue of Aung San attentively doing gardening, as well as a swimming pool where his second son tragically drowned.
