Sule Pagoda

Located in a quiet spot right in the bustling city center, the pagoda stands 46 meters tall with a gilded body and an octagonal base. Legend has it that it was built over 2,000 years ago after monks returning from India with sacred relics named it after Sule, the guardian deity of the Kakusandha Buddha era. Inside the pagoda is a statue of the deity Sule, who guards the sacred mountain where the Shwedagon Pagoda is located.

The pagoda is surrounded by many statues, the most eye-catching of which are Myanmar’s zodiac sculptures. The Burmese divide the zodiac into eight signs, each corresponding to a different day of the week from Monday to Sunday, with Wednesday split into two signs for the morning and afternoon. Visitors can find the zodiac sign that matches their birth date to worship, believed to bring blessings and protection.

Transportation

It is situated in a key transportation hub in the city center, near the terminus of many bus lines, making it very convenient.
