The Jameh Mosque of Isfahan, located in the historic center of Isfahan, Iran, also known as the "Friday Mosque," serves as an awe-inspiring visual record of over 1200 years of mosque architectural development since 841 AD. It is the oldest surviving mosque of its type in Iran and became the archetype for mosque design throughout Central Asia in the centuries that followed.

The Jameh Mosque complex spans over 20,000 square meters and is the first Islamic structure to adapt the four-iwan layout of Sassanian palaces to meet the needs of Islamic religious architecture. Its double-shell ribbed dome was an architectural innovation that inspired building designs across the region. A notable feature of the site is its highly stylized decorative details, representing more than a thousand years of evolution in Islamic art.
