Shah Mosque

The Shah Mosque is located on the eastern side of Naqsh-e Jahan Square in Isfahan. It was built during the reign of Abbas I of the Safavid dynasty, with construction starting in 1603 and completed in 1618. Unlike other mosques in Iran, the Shah Mosque was constructed as a private mosque for the royal family, and precisely for this reason, the mosque is relatively small in scale and has no minarets.

The dome of the Shah Mosque is covered with light green tiles, which make it stand out even more. When it was first built, Westerners were completely unaware of the existence of this mosque, let alone entering it for prayer. It was not until several centuries later that the mosque was opened to the public, allowing ordinary people to enter and pray. One of the most unique features of the Shah Mosque is the peacock mural located in the center of the dome. If you stand at the entrance of the inner shrine and look at the center of the dome, you will see a peacock whose tail is formed by the sunlight streaming through the gaps in the ceiling — a dazzling sight.
