The Old Mosque is located in Isfahan, Iran. As a scenic landmark, this mosque was built in the 17th century and has been recognized as one of the greatest buildings in the world due to its majestic and magnificent architecture. The mosque is adorned both inside and out with exquisite tilework, and its gates are silver-plated. The main gate stands 30 meters tall and is inscribed with numerous poetic verses written in the beautiful Persian Nasta'liq script by renowned calligraphers of the time. The walls also feature murals and decorations that reflect the highest standards of art and culture at the time. The dark blue mosaic tiles shimmer brilliantly under the sunlight, exuding grandeur and splendor. Covering an area of 17,000 square meters, the minarets on the mosque’s dome face directly toward the holy city of Mecca. The large dome on the southern side of the mosque stands 54 meters high, with most parts either gilded or silver-plated, creating a dazzling, resplendent appearance. The "Seven-Tone Hall" and the marble sundial beneath the southwestern wall of the hall are outstanding achievements of ancient Persian science. If you clap your hands on the echo stone positioned directly opposite the dome, you can hear multiple loud echoes. The further you move from the center of the dome, the weaker the echo becomes. On either side of the large dome, there are two minarets, each 43 meters tall. The sundial inside the mosque is triangular in shape and was used by people at the time to measure time. Best Time to Visit The Old Mosque experiences dry weather with little rainfall and significant temperature variations between seasons. The best times to visit are spring and autumn.
