Introduction

Tashkent is the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan and a major economic and cultural center in Central Asia. In terms of population, it is the largest city in Central Asia and the fourth-largest in the CIS, after Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Kyiv. It covers an area of 260 square kilometers and has a population of about 2.5 million. Uzbeks and Russians make up about 80% of the total population, while minority groups include Tatars, Koreans, Cossacks, Ukrainians, and others.

Features

The city’s industries include power generation, aviation, machinery manufacturing, and metal processing. Major crops are cotton, along with wheat, rice, vegetables, and melons. There are many institutions of higher education and research. The city also has several theaters, including the new opera and ballet theater. Other facilities include an art palace, museums, parks, and stadiums.
