Birthplace of Jesus: Church of the Nativity and the Pilgrimage Route in Bethlehem is one of the newest World Heritage Sites inscribed on June 29, 2012. Due to water damage affecting the site, it was also simultaneously listed on the List of World Heritage in Danger.

This heritage site is located 10 kilometers south of Jerusalem and has been recognized as the birthplace of Jesus by Christian tradition since the 2nd century. In 339 AD, the first church was built here, and after a fire in the 6th century, the rebuilt church retained the original’s exquisite mosaic floor. The site also includes Latin, Greek Orthodox, Franciscan, and Armenian monasteries and churches, as well as bell towers, terrace gardens, and a pilgrimage route.
