Attraction Introduction

Located in the center of Ashgabat, it was established on March 20, 1993, with presidential approval. The museum covers an area of 1,178 square meters and displays over 1,000 carpets and tapestries of various patterns from different periods. Two giant carpets are exhibited in the museum: one is the largest carpet in Turkmenistan, measuring 294 square meters (14×21) and weighing 1 ton; the other is 189 square meters (18×10.5). In addition, it also exhibits a million-thread carpet (with 1,148,000 threads per square meter) and double-sided carpets.

Turkmen carpets embody the aesthetic tastes of the Turkmen people. Each subgroup of the Turkmen ethnic group has its own unique carpet patterns. The current Turkmen national flag and emblem both feature carpet motifs.
