Door to Hell in Turkmenistan

The Door to Hell is located near the small town of Darvaza and is famous for the natural gas that has been burning like an inferno all year round. This gas crater was accidentally discovered in 1974 by geologists who came to drill for natural gas here, and it has been burning ever since.

In the last century, when geologists came here to drill for natural gas, they unexpectedly discovered this massive underground cave — so large and deep that it was immeasurable. Since the cave was filled with toxic gases such as natural gas that could ignite at any moment or possibly leak out, for safety reasons, the researchers decided to set it on fire to prevent the poisonous gases from escaping. Since then, the natural gas inside the crater has been burning continuously. No one knows how much valuable gas has been wasted over the years — it seems to be an inexhaustible supply that burns endlessly.

Currently, the Door to Hell truly resembles hell itself, with raging flames burning fiercely, and it has been ablaze for 38 years without ceasing, looking just like the fiery scenes seen in movies.
