Sultan Ali Mausoleum

The Sultan Ali Mausoleum is located on the outskirts of Daşoguz in northern Turkmenistan. It is one of the three buildings within the Kunya-Urgench architectural complex and also one of the most iconic landmarks in Turkmenistan.

The Sultan Ali Mausoleum was built in the 16th century. Sultan Ali was a famous Muslim teacher and poet from the 12th and 13th centuries. The mausoleum features three domes and a beautifully unrestored entrance portal, making it a spectacular site that is believed to have healing properties, thus attracting many pilgrims who come here to pray. The Sultan Ali Mausoleum is close to Kunya-Urgench, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005. At that time, the World Heritage Committee described it as “Kunya-Urgench was the capital of the Khorezm region under the rule of the Achaemenid Empire. This mausoleum not only provides a unique example of the exceptional preservation of Islamic culture, but also showcases outstanding achievements in architecture and craftsmanship of the time.”
