Highlights: The choir loft at the top of the church offers a view of the interior. The San Agustin Museum is located next to the San Agustin Church. Managed by the Augustinian friars, this private museum displays 26 religious icons, antiques, and more. Several notable Filipino figures are buried in the basement. The San Agustin Museum also exhibits colonial-era religious art, clerical vestments, and wood carvings that reflect the choir of 1614.

San Agustin Church, built in 1571, is the oldest stone church in the Philippines and was inscribed on the World Heritage List as a representative of Baroque churches. Located in Intramuros, it symbolizes Philippine history. The original church was made of bamboo, nipa palm, and earth but was destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt in 1599 using stone.

Having withstood five earthquakes and two world wars, the church is considered by many to be a miracle. Its intricate and lifelike bas-reliefs house precious religious paintings, while stained glass windows cast colorful light, adding to the church’s grandeur.

Transportation: San Agustin Church is located within Intramuros in the historic walled city and can be reached by car along General Luna Drive.

Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday, 7:00 AM – 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
