According to data from Expedia analyzing flight searches between August 15 and September 15, 2017, for departure dates on December 30 and 31, 2017, the top destinations searched by Taiwanese travelers are: Hong Kong in first place, followed by Manila, Tokyo, Harbin, Bangkok, Los Angeles, Singapore, Sydney, Christchurch, and Naha.

Hong Kong, which claimed the top spot in both the 2017 and 2018 rankings for Taiwanese travelers’ New Year’s Eve destinations, remains a favorite choice for many due to its proximity, affordability, and language advantages. The stunning night view of Victoria Harbour and the 360-degree panoramic fireworks display make it an ideal spot, and you can party all night long in the vibrant Lan Kwai Fong district until dawn.

The second most-searched destination by Taiwanese travelers is Manila, Philippines, which has risen in the ranks this year. Manila boasts a seaside boulevard celebrated as one of the world’s eight most beautiful sunsets, attracting many visitors who come to witness the year’s final sunset—perfect for couples. It is also one of the seven Asian cities Forbes magazine selected as the best for celebrating New Year’s Eve, offering the charm of citywide fireworks.

Based on the New Year’s Eve destination rankings for both 2017 and 2018, Tokyo consistently ranks among the top three most-searched destinations by Taiwanese travelers, demonstrating the enduring appeal of a winter trip to Japan.
