Introduction to the Attraction

Mount Kumgang is a renowned mountain in North Korea and a world-famous one as well. It spans 40 kilometers from east to west and 60 kilometers from north to south. The main peak of Mount Kumgang is Biro Peak, standing at 1,639 meters above sea level, and the mountain has twelve thousand peaks that attract visitors from all over the world. The landscape of Mount Kumgang is truly unique. The rocky cliffs have been shaped over countless millennia by wind and rain, with rugged summits of overlapping ridges revealing a precipitous beauty. Mount Kumgang, known as “mountains within mountains,” features peaks beyond peaks, grand and majestic, with countless waterfalls and crystal-clear pools, making it a spectacular sight. Each of the twelve thousand peaks presents a distinctive form, with continuous ridges and valleys, forests of strange rocks, and numerous wonders such as stone gates, caves, cliffs, and gorges. The landscapes of Mount Kumgang are truly unparalleled in their grandeur and elegance. Mount Kumgang is also known by different beautiful names according to the seasons: in spring, its wondrous scenery and pure transparency are compared to diamonds, earning it the name Mount Kumgang; in summer, it rivals the legendary Penglai and is called Mount Penglai; in autumn, when the mountains are covered in red foliage, it is named Maple Mountain; and in winter, with its rugged rocks and stark beauty, it is known as Skeleton Mountain. The area preserves many historical and cultural relics, including temples and stone pagodas. The Mount Kumgang region is one of the areas with the highest precipitation on the Korean Peninsula. The annual average temperature is 11°C, with an average of -2.1°C in January and 23.6°C in August. The average annual rainfall is 1,500 millimeters. There are 2,256 plant species here, including over 100 endemic plants. The wildlife includes 38 mammal species, 130 bird species, 9 reptile species, 10 amphibian species, and 30 fish species. Many captivating legends are associated with Mount Kumgang. The mountain is divided into Outer Kumgang, Inner Kumgang, and Sea Kumgang, and further subdivided into 22 sightseeing zones.
