Inphung Pavilion

Inphung Pavilion is located on the picturesque banks of the Kangjae River in Chungjong-dong, Kanggye City, the capital of Chagang Province, North Korea. Originally built in 1472 and renovated in 1680, it once served as a military reviewing stand in the northwest section of “Kanggye Fortress.” With its idyllic scenery, it has long been celebrated as one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Korea’s Western Region and attracts many tourists.

The front of Inphung Pavilion consists of five sections, covering a floor area of approximately 171 square meters and stretching about 18.75 meters in length. It has three sections on the side, spanning around 8.9 meters in width, and features a double-eave hip-and-gable roof design. The rear side includes four rooms with a single supporting column to facilitate the movement of military instructors. The pavilion structure is two stories at the front and single-story at the back. The floor is supported by 24 columns, each 1.18 meters tall, while an additional 15 round pillars are placed along the outer edges above the floor. The corner pillars are slightly taller than the others and are inclined inward. Various exquisite patterns are carved into the beams and rafters. In recent years, the surrounding area has been developed into a “leisure park” for tourists to relax and explore.
