Chongjin

Chongjin supports North Korea’s industry, and as such, it has a busier atmosphere compared to the tranquility and beauty of Pyongyang or Mount Myohyang. This is another face of the developing DPRK. Chongjin (English: Chongjin, Korean: ??) is the capital of North Hamgyong Province in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the country’s third-largest city. It is also a key industrial hub in northern North Korea. Located at the mouth of the Rumchon River in the southern part of North Hamgyong Province, Chongjin faces the East Sea’s Kyongpo Bay to the east. To the northeast lies Rason, to the west are Puryong County and Musan County, to the south is Kyongwon County, and to the north is Hoeryong. The area covers approximately 5,000 square kilometers (including counties). The urban population is around 490,000. Chongjin has a cold winter and mild summer, with an average annual temperature of 7.5°C. Thanks to the influence of warm currents, it is a year-round ice-free port.
