Stepanakert
Attraction Introduction Formerly known as "Khankendi" before 1923. The capital of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region under Azerbaijani jurisdiction. Located at the eastern foot of the Karabakh Mountains. Population: 33,000. Industrial output accounts for more than half of that of the autonomous region.
Specialties
Main industries include silk weaving, carpet making, furniture production, shoemaking, and food processing, along with the manufacturing of lighting electrical appliances. There is also a teachers' college and a local history museum.
