The Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa, also known as the Dubai Tower or Burj Dubai, is a completed skyscraper located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It has 162 floors and stands at a total height of 828 meters, towering 310 meters over Taipei 101. The tower was constructed by South Korea's Samsung C&T Corporation, with construction beginning on September 21, 2004, and completion on January 4, 2010.

The Burj Khalifa project was designed by American architect Adrian Smith of Chicago-based SOM (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill). The architectural design features a challenging monolithic structure composed of interconnected tubular towers, giving it a space-age appearance. The base is surrounded by geometric patterns inspired by Islamic architecture — a six-petal desert flower. Including surrounding developments, the total investment exceeded 7 billion USD. Floors 1 to 37 house a hotel; floors 45 to 108 are residential apartments. Floor 78 features the world’s highest swimming pool, and floor 158 is home to the world’s highest mosque. Floor 123 includes an observation deck offering panoramic views of Dubai. The building contains 1,000 luxury apartments, and the surrounding development includes Dragon Mart, Dubai Mall, and associated facilities such as hotels, residences, apartments, and business centers. The tower is equipped with 57 elevators, including the world’s fastest, which reaches speeds of up to 64 km/h, taking just one minute to reach the observation deck between floors 123 and 124.
