Bahrain National Museum

The Bahrain National Museum houses precious artifacts from Bahrain’s history, spanning from the Stone Age to the pre-oil trade era, offering deep insights into the daily lives of the ancient people of Bahrain. Located on Al Fateh Highway, the museum features paintings, sculptures, illustrated Qurans, a reconstruction of a 6,000-year-old burial mound, and a rich collection that presents the glorious history of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The world-famous prehistoric burial mounds are located at the northern tip of Bahrain Island. There are six sites, with over 150,000 tombs remaining from the Dilmun and Tylos civilizations. In the early 1950s, Swedish archaeologists excavated these tombs, which were dated to around 2500 BC—earlier than China’s Xia Dynasty. The Bahrain National Museum showcases findings such as excavated castles, temples, and tombs, along with numerous artifacts including bronze bull heads and clay seals. They also had their own writing system, representing an ancient and enduring civilization in the Gulf region. On May 22, 2008, the “Chinese Jingdezhen Porcelain Culture Exhibition” grandly opened at the Bahrain National Museum, where the exquisite ceramics from Jingdezhen were greatly admired by many local visitors.
