The Istanbul Toy Museum is located in the Göztepe district of Istanbul, Turkey, and is the country's only toy museum. It was founded in 2005 by the famous Turkish poet and writer Sunay Akın. The museum houses a collection of over 4,000 toys from various countries and eras around the world, with the oldest pieces dating back nearly 200 years. This charming museum attracts nearly 100,000 visitors each year with its joyful atmosphere and diverse collection.

On October 23, 2005, which is Turkish Children's Day, this small family-owned museum opened its doors in a centuries-old wooden house. On the floor, visitors can find a wide variety of toys — from cowboys to fantastical underwater worlds. Different rooms in the museum are themed, allowing visitors to explore how toys have evolved across different eras and how political events of the time influenced toy design. For example, the Soldiers Room features tin and plastic figures dressed in World War II military uniforms, while another beautifully decorated room showcases Barbie dolls dressed as flight attendants.

Each toy in the Istanbul Toy Museum comes with a very personable little label, detailing the toy’s country of origin and the year it was made, both in Turkish and English. Many of the toys also come with delightful little stories behind them, making them well worth a closer look.
