Pera Museum

Pera Museum is a private art museum located in Istanbul, Turkey, established in 2005 by the “Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation.” Suna Kıraç was the youngest daughter of Vehbi Koç, a prominent Turkish business magnate, and İnan Kıraç is her husband.

Pera Museum houses three permanent collections: Anatolian Weights and Measures, Kütahya Tiles and Ceramics, and Orientalist Paintings. The Orientalist collection includes over 300 paintings, some by European artists who were inspired by the Ottoman Empire between the 17th and 19th centuries and created artworks reflecting the Turkish Empire of that time. The most renowned works in the Orientalist collection are those by Osman Hamdi Bey, hailed by many art historians as the most representative artist of the “Orientalist” genre. His most famous painting is The Tortoise Trainer.

In addition to its exhibitions, Pera Museum hosts a wide range of cultural activities. Its facilities include a multi-purpose exhibition hall, an auditorium, and visitor activity spaces; the first floor features an art shop and café, along with lounges and a children’s activity area.
