Haeundae Beach

Haeundae Beach is Korea’s most famous seaside resort. During the Silla Dynasty (BC57–AD935), the scholar Choi Chi-won, while taking a stroll near Camellia Island, was so moved by the beautiful scenery that he carved the Chinese characters for “Haeundae” (Sea and Cloud Terrace) on a rock on the island. This gave rise to the area’s name. The beach stretches 1.5 kilometers in length and is 30–50 meters wide, covering an area of 58,400 square meters, with a capacity to accommodate over 120,000 people. The sand is coarse yet clean, sticking to the skin without easily falling off. It was formed through years of weathering of sand and shells flowing from the Cheoncheon River. Haeundae Beach hosts various cultural events and festivals annually. The beach area also features a folk experience zone (with seesaws, wrestling, tuho [arrow tossing], tug-of-war, yutnori [Korean board game], etc.), a seaside culture center, and a seaside library. Every year from July to August, many domestic and international visitors come here to enjoy the beach.

Transportation: Seoul → Busan → Haeundae Beach 1. Seoul → Busan: Take a train from Seoul Station (Subway Line 1 or 4) to Busan Station. KTX takes 2 hours and 40 minutes, Saemaul takes 3 hours and 40 minutes, and Mugunghwa takes 5 hours and 20 minutes. 2. Busan Station → Haeundae Beach a. Subway: Get off at Haeundae Station on Busan Subway Line 2, and walk toward the beach via Exit 3 or 5 (approximately 10 minutes). b. Bus ① Airport → Haeundae: Take the KAL limousine bus or Bus No. 2002 or 307, about 50 minutes. ② Busan Station → Haeundae: Take Bus No. 139, 140, 239, 240, or 302, about 40 minutes. ③ Western Bus Terminal → Haeundae: Take Bus No. 31 or 31-1, about 50 minutes. c. Taxi ① Busan Station → Haeundae (about 40 minutes) ② Intercity Bus Terminal → Haeundae (about 50 minutes)
