Korea’s Lantern Festival is buzzing with excitement
Last updated 2026-09-25 — On February 17th, the Lantern Festival, the Haeundae Beach area in Korea will host the “Haeundae Moon Viewing & Hot Spring Festival.” At noon that day, a “Traditional Folk Games Competition” will kick off at the white sand area of Haeundae Beach.

At the Traditional Folk Games Competition, representative players from various districts in Haeundae will compete in traditional Korean games such as Yutnori, tuho (arrow throwing), jianzi (shuttlecock kicking), and cockfighting, using the contests as a way to interact. Visitors can also try their hand at tuho, Yutnori, and shuttlecock kicking on-site. Starting at 2 PM, additional activities will take place, including a performance of the traditional court dance “Taepyeong Haengsa Dance,” and a reenactment of Queen Jinseong of Silla’s royal procession.

Additionally, at the white sand area, there’s a “Moon House Karaoke” where visitors can sing their hearts out. By the seaside, there’s also a recreation of the “Return of the Five-Six Fishing Boats,” where fishing boats return to Haeundae from the open sea via the Gwakji Islets after completing their catch. The sight of fishing boats sailing home under the fading evening sun is known as one of the “Eight Scenic Views of Haeundae” and is truly beautiful. There are also many lively celebrations, such as the Moon Spirit Prayer Ceremony for good fortune in the coming year, the Burning of the Moon House, and the Ganggangsullae dance.
