Gyeongju Pumun Tourist Area

Gyeongju Pumun Tourist Area is located within Gyeongju City and is an international tourist destination. The area centers around Pumun Lake, situated approximately 6 kilometers east of downtown Gyeongju, covering an area of about 1,033 hectares (3.23 million pyeong). The entire site has been designated as a hot spring and tourism special zone. Opened in April 1979, it is a comprehensive tourist and leisure resort. At the entrance, there is a massive waterwheel that turns naturally as water from Deokdongho flows down the channel. There is also a 12-meter-high artificial waterfall at the entrance. Within the Pumun Tourist Area, there are facilities such as an international conference hall (tourism center), a golf course, a general-purpose store, and tourist hotels—all built in traditional Korean architectural styles. Other recreational amenities include a boat dock, Yukbu Village, the Sonje Art Museum, an open-air stage, a drive-in theater, and Gyeongju World. The open-air stage hosts free traditional Korean music (gugak) performances every day from April to January. The hot spring pools in Pumun Garden are filled with high-quality natural hot spring water averaging 35.5°C, which requires no additional heating, offering visitors a relaxing soak. A long walking path runs along the lakeside, lined with dense cherry blossom trees. In April, when the cherry blossoms bloom, the park transforms into a pink snow-covered wonderland. When the breeze blows, the pink petals seem almost magical, bringing spontaneous smiles to visitors’ faces.

Transportation: Take a city bus from across from Gyeongju Intercity Bus Terminal to Pumun Tourist Area. The ride takes about 20 minutes, with buses running every 15 minutes. By taxi, it takes approximately 10 minutes from Gyeongju Intercity Bus Terminal to the tourist area.
