Hakusan

Hakusan is a city in the southern part of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. It has the largest area within the prefecture and the second-largest population, following Kanazawa. To the south, Mount Hakusan, the highest peak at 2,702 meters, towers over the landscape, with mountain ranges ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 meters stretching continuously. The Tedori River flows from north to south, and numerous villages have formed along the river and its tributaries. To the north, the Tedori River fan-shaped plain is remarkably expansive, and its flat terrain makes it one of the prefecture’s foremost grain-producing regions.

Hakusan is a city rich in natural beauty and full of development potential. While it may not rival other international metropolises in Japan, it offers a serene and harmonious charm. Its narrow streets are perfect for leisurely strolls, where you can admire many uniquely styled gardens, each exquisitely tended by their owners with elegant flair. As evening falls, the city lights up, and the air fills with the rich aroma of sake. Kinken Shrine is a famous Shinto shrine in Hakusan, with a history dating back to 717 AD. It was built by the Hogi clan, the lords of Mino (the former name of Hakusan), to honor samurai and has been designated as a municipal cultural property. Other attractions worth visiting include Mikawa Onsen, Nakagumi Onsen, Iwama Onsen, Shiramine Onsen, Ennein Temple, Nikyō Castle Ruins, Tedori Gorge, Mino Castle, and -ike Pond.
