Ikaho Onsen

Ikaho Onsen is located at the foot of Mount Haruna in central Gunma Prefecture and has long been renowned as a famous hot spring. Historical records from ancient texts document the presence of this hot spring, making it a very ancient one.

Ikaho Onsen originally only had what was known as the "Golden Spring," named for its uniquely colored water, which turned tea-brown due to the oxidation of iron content in the spring quality. This spring has low irritability, warms the body from within, and promotes blood circulation. It is also highly regarded among women under the nickname "Child-Blessing Spring," with records from the Edo period describing its use to treat infertility. In recent years, a new type of transparent, colorless hot spring water has emerged in Ikaho, widely referred to as the "Silver Spring." It is said to be quite effective for post-illness convalescence, fatigue recovery, and overall health improvement.

Ikaho Onsen is one of the most famous hot spring resorts in Gunma Prefecture and even across Japan, exuding a quintessential onsen atmosphere that pairs perfectly with traditional yukata attire. In addition, the surrounding area features famous Gunma attractions such as Lake Haruna, Mizusawa Temple, Kawagoe Bridge, and Ikaho Shrine, allowing visitors to explore these sites while enjoying the hot springs.
