Maebashi

Maebashi

Maebashi is a city located in the central-southern part of Gunma Prefecture and the northwestern part of the Kantō region in Japan. It serves as the prefectural capital of Gunma Prefecture. The city was established in 1892, became a special ordinance city on April 1, 2001, and attained core city status in 2009. The city also hosts Maebashi Institute of Technology.

Cultural facilities in Maebashi include the Maebashi Waterworks Museum, the Shigetaka Shigehara Memorial Museum, the Maebashi Silk Museum, and the Gunma Prefectural Hall. Other tourist destinations include Akagi Shrine, the Site of Kōzuke Kokubun-ji Temple, Omuro Park, Shikishima Park, Maebashi Park, the Akagi Onsen hot spring resort, Mount Akagi, and the Akagi Plateau Ranch.
