Yungang National Forest Park

Yungang National Forest Park is a national-level forest park.

Yungang National Forest Park was established with the approval of the former Ministry of Forestry under document Shoulin Zao Pi Zi (1992) No. 200. Located in Datong City, Shanxi Province, it covers a total area of 15,967 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of approximately 31%.

The park area features a distinct continental monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 6.5°C. Summers are cool and pleasant, making the period from June to October the golden season for tourism.

The park boasts a rich variety of natural and cultural landscapes, including the world-renowned Yungang Grottoes from the Northern Wei Dynasty; the historic battlefield of the "Battle of Baideng" from the Western Han Dynasty; the scenic beauty of Wenying Lake with its clear blue waters; the striking red cliffs and verdant pines of Hongshi Cliff; ancient plant fossil remnants; as well as modern coal industry exhibitions. Together with the Upper and Lower Huayan Temples, Shanhua Temple, the Nine-Dragon Screen, and nearby attractions such as the Wooden Pagoda in Ying County and the Hanging Temple on Mount Heng, they form a unique tourist destination where natural scenery and historical sites complement each other, showcasing profound historical and cultural heritage and diverse styles.
