Yamagata Onsen
Yamagata Onsen is located at the foot of the Zao Mountain Range in Yamagata Prefecture, northeastern Japan. It is said to have been discovered as early as the year 110 AD, making it over 1,900 years old and one of Japan's oldest hot spring resorts. The springs in the Yamagata Onsen area are sulfuric hot springs, classified as strong acidic, and are known for their special therapeutic effects on skin diseases and gastrointestinal problems, earning it the reputations of "Princess’s Hot Spring" and "Beauty Hot Spring." Moreover, because sulfuric springs are believed to promote healthy growth in children, the hot spring is also famed as "Children’s Health Hot Spring."
The Yamagata Onsen area has three public bathhouses and three open-air hot springs, and each hotel also has its own hot spring facilities. In the hot spring town filled with the scent of sulfur, visitors come and go in great numbers, including not only domestic tourists but also many international visitors drawn by its reputation. The area where Yamagata Onsen is located boasts beautiful scenery, allowing guests to enjoy the comfort of natural hot springs while taking in the splendor of nature.
