Ginzan Onsen is located in Obanazawa City in the northeastern part of Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. It is a traditional hot spring resort rich in Japanese cultural charm. The hot spring town lines both banks of the tranquil Ginzan River, where three- to four-story wooden inns built from the Taisho to early Showa periods stand in rows. The views of gas lamps reflecting on the river at dusk and the beautiful heavy snowfall in winter have captivated countless visitors.

Ginzan Onsen was discovered about 400 years ago during silver mining and has since been used as a long-term healing hot spring, boasting a long history. The milky-white spring water, with temperatures exceeding 55 degrees Celsius, is said to be effective in relieving fatigue, easing tension, and improving symptoms such as cold hands and feet. A foot bath available for public use is set along the hot spring town promenade, where visitors can sit and enjoy the unique ambiance of the area. In addition, the recently opened public bathhouse “Shirogane no Yu” is also highly praised for its modern design and atmospheric lighting.

Ginzan Onsen was a filming location for the popular TV drama "Oshin." It is not only a renowned hot spring resort but also a famous tourist attraction, drawing many visitors who come to see the spots featured in the show.
