Sendai Daikannon

Sendai Daikannon is a white statue located in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. Standing at 100 meters tall, it is the sixth tallest statue in the world. The entire figure is carved from pristine white marble, flawless in appearance, making it a famous landmark in Sendai and a beloved attraction for visitors.

Sendai Daikannon holds a wish stone in her right hand and a pure water vase in her left. With a serene and benevolent expression, she quietly watches over the land of Sendai and the generations of people who have toiled here. The carving of Daikannon is not only strikingly lifelike but also highly functional: the statue is divided into 12 levels inside, housing 108 Buddha statues and 12 Shinto guardian statues in various locations. The top level features a heart hall dedicated to enshrining the sacred body as well as an observation deck. From the observation deck, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Sendai City and gaze out at the vast Pacific Ocean. Today, an elevator has been installed inside the statue, allowing visitors to easily reach the top floor and take in the magnificent sights of Sendai and the Pacific.
