Nioh Bridge Gorge

Nioh Bridge Gorge is a roughly two-kilometer-long valley formed by the Satetsu River, a tributary of the Kitakami River, as it flows through cliffs on both sides that rise up to 100 meters high. The limestone within the gorge has been continuously eroded by the Satetsu River, creating a variety of uniquely shaped rocks. Together with the waterfalls cascading down the cliffs and the fascinating caves among other natural features, it forms one of the most beautiful scenic areas in Iwate Prefecture in northeastern Japan.

Nioh Bridge Gorge features mountains, water, flowers, and plants, along with fresh air and a pleasant climate, making it an ideal place for visitors to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the beauty of nature. In spring, as temperatures gradually rise, wisteria blossoms begin to bloom, hanging in clusters from the peculiar rocks like exquisitely crafted artworks. In the heat of summer, the stream flows more briskly, flowers bloom more vibrantly, trees grow lusher, and it becomes a perfect spot for playing in the water and cooling off. In autumn, when leaves begin to fall, the gorge’s red foliage attracts visitors from around the world. In winter, the entire area is covered in a blanket of snow, offering a stunning snowy landscape and making it a well-known destination for snow viewing.
