Datong Jinhua Palace National Mine Park

Jinhua Palace National Mine Park is one of China’s first 28 national mine parks, themed around “coal” culture.

Jinhua Palace National Mine Park has a total investment of 463 million yuan and covers an area of 360,000 square meters. It mainly consists of seven scenic areas: the Coal Museum, Industrial Heritage Area, Stone Village, Buddha-Gazing Platform, Jinyang Pool, Underground Exploration Tour, and Shantytown Ruins. Among them, the Datong Coal Museum is the park’s iconic building, with exhibition halls showcasing five major sections: the formation of coal, coal mining, coal utilization, coal culture, and a century of Datong coal mining.

Jinhua Palace National Mine Park integrates coal history, industrial heritage, modern tourism, cultural landscapes, and green mine development. It achieves an organic combination of industrial heritage with distinctive coal-mining folk culture, especially as it faces the Yungang Grottoes across the river, painting a beautiful picture where “coal” culture and “Buddha” culture complement and enhance each other.

Approved in August 2005 by the Ministry of Land and Resources, it became one of China’s first national mine parks.
