Cairns Tropical Zoo

Established in 1980, Cairns Tropical Zoo covers an area of 6 hectares. Though not very large, it is the largest tropical animal collection in Queensland. The zoo is home to both native and introduced animals and birds, making it the most well-known tropical zoo in Cairns.

The mission of Cairns Tropical Zoo is to protect animals, educate the public, and raise environmental awareness. The park provides animals with excellent habitats and the best care, allowing them to live comfortably. It hosts a wide variety of animal species and countless birds. In addition to common animals such as kangaroos, koalas, and crocodiles, you can also see rare animals from other parts of the world, such as the red panda from Nepal and ring-tailed lemurs. Throughout the day, there are scheduled animal shows including kangaroo feeding, crocodile presentations, and bird releases—all thrilling and highly entertaining. For those who wish to explore further, night tours are available to observe the behavior and habitat of nocturnal animals.

Night zoo tours are available from Monday to Thursday and on Sundays, starting at 7:00 PM. The daytime zoo is open from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM year-round, except on Christmas Day.
