Depart from Australia to Experience Working Holidays at World Heritage Sites

● Great Barrier Reef

 

The Great Barrier Reef was listed as a Natural World Heritage Site in 1981 and is the world’s largest coral reef system. The northern end of the Great Barrier Reef is near Papua New Guinea close to the equator, while the southern end is near the outer sea of Brisbane, stretching approximately 2,300 kilometers in total, covering a water area of up to 344,400 square kilometers—about the size of Japan. The Great Barrier Reef consists of 2,900 individual coral reefs, with over 300 types of coral, more than 400 types of sponge organisms, over 4,000 types of mollusks, and more than 1,500 types of fish. The beauty and fragility of this vast underwater world composed of so many marine creatures can only be truly appreciated by experiencing it in person.

 

● Wet Tropics of Queensland

 

The Wet Tropics of Queensland, located at the northeastern tip of Queensland, is the world’s oldest rainforest area. It not only contains many endangered plants and animals but is itself like a living history of the Earth’s ecological evolution. It was listed as a Natural Heritage Site in 1988.

 

Cape Tribulation, located in the Daintree Rainforest, is part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland, a World Heritage Site. The active and adventurous people of Queensland came up with the idea of utilizing the rainforest in this area. Between towering ancient trees in the jungle, they built flying fox zip lines, calling it “Jungle Surfing.” The platforms of the zip lines are set up on six large trees, connected by a cable between the trees. With the assistance of staff, players secure their safety harnesses and slide along the cable’s pulley to the platform on the opposite tree. It feels as if you’ve suddenly mastered lightness skills, speeding through the jungle like in a martial arts movie—thrilling and incredibly exciting.
