85 Sky Tower

The 85 Sky Tower is located in Lingya District, Kaohsiung, with Zhixing Road to the east, Shin Kong Road to the south, Sanduo Road to the north, and only half a street away from Chenggong Road to the west. It is close to Kaohsiung Port, Kaohsiung International Airport (Xiaogang), Kaohsiung Railway Station, and the Shin Kong Ferry Terminal.

Also known as the East Asia Tuntex 85 International Plaza or Tuntex Jian Tai Building, the 85 Sky Tower was completed in 1997 and designed by architect C.Y. Lee. It is the tallest skyscraper in Southern Taiwan, the second tallest in Taiwan overall, and currently the 13th tallest skyscraper in the world.

Introduction

The 85 Sky Tower resembles the Chinese character “高” (high) in shape. It stands approximately 347.5 meters tall, or 378 meters including its antenna. The building has 85 floors above ground and 5 below, with the lowest three floors designated as parking, floors B2 to 7 housing a department store, floors 8 to 12 featuring Magic Land, floors 13 to 35 on the right side of the building occupied by an exhibition plaza, various enterprises on the left side, floor 37 home to the Silks Place Kaohsiung hotel, and floors 74 and 75 providing open-air observation decks—the most iconic parts of the tower.

In addition to the breathtaking views from great heights, another highlight of the 85 Sky Tower is its 92 elevators and escalators, including the fastest elevator that ascends at 750 meters per minute, reaching the 77th floor in just 45 seconds. Its speed is currently only surpassed by those in Taipei 101 and Yokohama's Landmark Tower, making it the world’s third-fastest elevator.

Upon reaching the top via the high-speed elevators, you’ll find the “observation toilet,” where a large floor-to-ceiling window right outside the door offers a fantastic view. Additionally, the 74th floor provides a 360-degree panoramic view of Kaohsiung Harbor and the city skyline—it’s also the location of the observation deck.

By car:

National Freeway No. 1: Exit at Zhongzheng Interchange, continue along Zhongzheng 1st Road to Wufu 1st Road then to Sanduo 3rd Road, turn left onto Zhixing Road to reach the 85 Sky Tower.

By MRT:

(1) Take the Red Line MRT to Sanchong Business District Station (R8), exit at Exit 2, and walk toward Shin Kong Road to reach the 85 Sky Tower.

(2) Take the Red Line MRT to Sanchong Business District Station (R8), then transfer to a shuttle bus to Badawu Building Station to reach the 85 Sky Tower.

By bus:

(1) Take bus routes 78, 83, or 100 to Jiandai Department Store Station to reach the 85 Sky Tower.

(2) Take bus routes 70 or 14 to Sanduo 4th Road Intersection Station to reach the 85 Sky Tower.
