Introduction

The Native Plant Garden is located in Zuoying District, Kaohsiung, adjacent to Zhongguang Road, situated east of Aozihdi Xin Zhuangzi Road and west of Zengzi Road. Established in 1994, it covers an area of

4.66

hectares, making it the first greening park in Taiwan themed entirely around native plants. The park currently houses over 60 species of plants from 45 families native to Taiwan. The entire garden is like a living museum of Taiwanese flora, featuring local characteristics while also serving educational and recreational purposes.

As you step into the garden, you begin to enter a vivid and complete story of life and growth. The plants are designed using landscape-style techniques, ingeniously combining ecology with leisure functions. The entrance plaza presents educational content through artistic forms, while the stream area recreates the natural flow of water with its varying elevations. Decorative fountains, winding bridges, and sandy beaches offer visitors a delightful and engaging park experience. Each plant in the garden is accompanied by an explanatory sign, providing information on the species' name, characteristics, and unique uses—enhancing public awareness and the quality of green spaces.

The garden features areas such as a mangrove zone, aquatic plant zone, low-altitude southern plant zone, coral reef zone, and coastal forest zone. It also includes a botanical literary path that rivals Kyoto’s “Philosopher’s Path” in Japan. This richly biodiverse and well-maintained botanical garden offers visitors a refined urban garden leisure experience.

By car:

1. National Freeway No. 1: Exit at the Dingjin System Interchange, connect to National Freeway No. 10 toward Zuoying, and continue to Dazhong 1st Road to reach the Native Plant Garden.

2. National Freeway No. 3: Exit at the Yanchao System Interchange, connect to National Freeway No. 10 toward Zuoying, and continue to Dazhong 1st Road to reach the Native Plant Garden.

By train:

(1) Take a train to Kaohsiung Main Station, then transfer to bus routes 5, 6, 17, 19, 31, or 43 at the station front to Zuoying Station. Walk along Shengli Road to reach the Native Plant Garden.

(2) Take a train to Zuoying Railway Station, then walk along Cuihua Road and turn onto Chongde Road to reach the Native Plant Garden.

By bus:

Take city bus No. 17 to the Human Resources Development Bureau for Public Servants stop to reach the Native Plant Garden.
