Agongdian Reservoir

Agongdian Reservoir is located in the middle and upper reaches of the Agongdian River in Yanchao and Tianliao townships, Kaohsiung County. It was the first multi-purpose reservoir completed after Taiwan’s retrocession. With a dam length of over 2 kilometers, it holds the record for the longest dam in the Far East and is the longest dam in Taiwan—surpassing even the Wushantou Reservoir and Longluan Pond.

Agongdian Reservoir not only serves multiple functions such as flood control, irrigation, and water supply, but also boasts breathtaking lake and mountain scenery. A massive spillway pipe is situated in the middle of the dam, which is quite unique and one of the rare naturally ventilated spillway structures in the province. However, due to its proximity to a military zone and its remote location with limited transportation access, the reservoir has often been overlooked. Although Agongdian Reservoir is now open to the public, there are still no direct passenger transport services to the area. Visitors must either bring their own motorcycles or get off at the reservoir entrance station near Yanchao, then follow the signage. The route is lined with straight, elegant casuarina trees, features a flat road surface, and offers beautiful scenery—making it an ideal spot for camping.
