The Governor's Mansion of Macau

The Governor's Mansion of Macau is located on Nam Van Street, which boasts a distinct South Asian flair, just a bit up from Avenida da Praia Grande. Originally the official residence of the Governor of Macau, it now serves as the office of the Macau administration. In the past, it was the workplace of the Governor and the administrative center of Macau. The site was originally private property, but in 1881, the former Portuguese Macau government acquired it and rebuilt it into the Governor’s Mansion.

The Governor’s Mansion is a pink-hued residence designed by architect Aguiar, who blended the essence of European and Asian architectural styles. It was constructed in 1840 by local Macanese builders. As a typical Portuguese-style building, it spans an area of 50,000 square meters. The structure consists of a two-story building and a garden, with granite used for the wall foundations to ensure sturdiness. The building features wings extending to both sides, arched windows adorned with wooden shutters. The garden lies behind and to the right of the main structure, exuding a Southern European charm and adding to the mansion’s unique appeal in Macau. The main building occupies two-fifths of the site, with the remainder being garden space. The interiors are lavishly decorated, featuring exquisite rosewood furniture with Chinese characteristics and valuable Chinese porcelain, adding a touch of luxury to the Governor’s Mansion. Although entry is not permitted for outsiders, visitors can take photos in front of the mansion as a memento.

The entire official residence is nestled among flowers and trees on a slope and boasts a distinctive design: the entire floor is outlined with white trim, featuring wide and deep balconies, protruding gabled window frames, white French-style shutters, and a flat rooftop. While the interior decor and layout are not easily visible, taking a commemorative photo in front of the Governor's Mansion is still a great idea. The Governor’s official residence is situated on Estrada da Colina, formerly the official home of the Governor of Macau, with lavish interiors and stunning scenery. Its pavilions, terraces, centuries-old trees, and breathtaking sea views make it a truly rare and luxurious residence.
