With Lunar New Year approaching, JFOODO (The Japan Food Product Overseas Promotion Center) has come to Taiwan to promote three Japanese luck-bringing fish: scallops, sea bream, and yellowtail. The campaign also invited Masaharu Morimoto, the star of the popular Japanese TV drama “The Lonely Gourmet,” to serve as ambassador, helping to officially launch the promotional series.
At the press conference, Mr. Morimoto personally sampled all three types of luck-bringing fish. Thanks to the expert preparation by celebrity chef MASA and the use of unique seasonings such as soy sauce and salt, all three fish left a deep impression on him. The condiments used were so impressive that show host Hsueh Chi-chang joked about giving them to Morimoto as a souvenir. In response, Morimoto said he had brought a large suitcase for this trip to Taiwan and would gladly take the seasonings home as a gift!
The three luck-bringing seafood items are scallops, sea bream, and yellowtail, each symbolizing a different kind of good fortune: Scallops, with their shell shape resembling a sail billowing in the wind, represent “smooth sailing.” They are also rich in nutrients like taurine, which helps combat fatigue—making them perfect for those striving diligently toward their goals.
Some species of sea bream can live over 40 years, making them an essential dish in Japan for celebrating longevity and important holidays. With their low calorie and high protein content, they are especially suitable for those who wish to maintain long-term health.
Yellowtail, known as the “promotion fish” because it is called by different names at various growth stages, is rich in DHA, which helps revitalize the brain. It’s ideal for those seeking to stay sharp-minded and continue evolving and improving.
